Adelaide will be bolstered by the return of two defenders ahead of its match against Gold Coast in Darwin on Saturday night.

Backmen Mitch Hinge and Brodie Smith will return to the Crows’ line-up after being sidelined last week due to concussion and back soreness, respectively.

Midfielder Ned McHenry, who was named as a late replacement for Smith ahead of last week’s game, and defender Josh Worrell have been omitted.

Defender Patrick Parnell, who was used as the substitute last week, also drops out.

Crows Head of Football Adam Kelly said Worrell and McHenry were unlucky to come out of the team but a tough call had to be made with Smith and Hinge becoming available.

“Brodie and Mitch had played in our first ten games before injury kept them out of our line-up against the Lions,” Kelly said.

“Consistency of performances and strong availability of players have led to a number of in form players, who have performed well at AFL level, being squeezed out of our line up across the season.

“That is unfortunately the case with Ned, Josh and Patty this week.

"It is likely that Ned will be our sub this week, a role that he has performed well in already this year.

“We are very pleased with the attitude of the squad regarding selection at the moment, and the way in which those who are missing AFL selection keep putting their hand up through strong performances in our SANFL team.”

McHenry, Sam Berry, Kieran Strachan and Brayden Cook have been named as the emergencies.

One of the four will be announced as the Crows’ substitute, an hour before the game.

The Crows enter the Round 12 game after a 17-point win against Brisbane at Adelaide Oval last weekend.

Adelaide plays Gold Coast at TIO Stadium in Darwin on Saturday at 7pm (ACST).
