ROUND NINE: ADELAIDE V BRISBANE

ADELAIDE OVAL

SUNDAY, MAY 28, 4.10pm

Adelaide will host Brisbane at Adelaide Oval on Sunday in week two of Sir Doug Nicholls Round, which honours and celebrates Australia’s Indigenous history.

BHP is proud to support Adelaide’s home Sir Doug Nicholls Round match and has a longstanding relationship with the Crows which is underpinned by a joint commitment to inclusion and diversity.

Together we are proud to recognise the achievements of First Nations people through a range of initiatives across the day.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the match.

Arrive Early

There will be plenty to see and do before the game, so we are encouraging fans to arrive early and be in your seats by 3.50pm to enjoy a special celebration of Indigenous culture.

There will also be limited casual parking at Adelaide Oval available, due to wet weather.

Activities

The Adelaide Football Club Reconciliation Cup featuring Tjindu Foundation vs SEDA College will be the curtain raiser match pre-match. Participants will then form our guard of honour.

AFC and Brisbane will run through a joint banner, showcasing our unified approach to reconciliation.

A live cultural performance including traditional dance, Welcome to Country and a cleansing ceremony will take place on field at approximately 3.50pm.

There will also be live Indigenous music in the Southern Plaza and the game day playlist will showcase Aboriginal artists.

There will be giveaways throughout the match, including a keepsake poster.

Gift Exchange

Indigenous artist Patrick Ferguson from Punu Carvings has designed and created two gifts for the Club for Sir Doug Nicholls Round.

Carved into both items is an extension of the theme behind the Indigenous guernsey design which is focused on ‘connection’ – the story of our ongoing connection to country, culture, community and of course football.

This story was carried from Adelaide to Ballarat last weekend for the Round 10 match via the first gift, the Message Stick.

On Sunday afternoon, the same message is carved into the Warrior’s Club which will be gifted to Brisbane.

The gift exchange is thanks to home match partner, BHP.

2023 Indigenous Guernsey

Adelaide will wear its 2023 Indigenous guernsey, designed by Anmatyerr educator and artist April Napangardi Campbell from the Ti Tree community in the Northern Territory.

Campbell is AFLW premiership player Danielle Ponter’s aunty and the two only recently met for the first time in Adelaide, having only ever spoken over the phone after the family lost connection with Ponter’s grandfather on her mother’s side was forcibly removed from traditional lands as a two-year-old.

The primary theme of this year’s guernsey design is connection, which has extra special meaning, given the opportunity to create the special piece of artwork connected Ponter and Campbell for the first time.

The design, to be worn by all three of Adelaide’s teams this year, centres on connection of one club inclusive of all Crows players, staff, members, fans and communities.

A replica of the AFL version of the guernsey is available to purchase online at CROWmania, in store at West Lakes or from venue on game day. Additional merchandise featuring the design is also available.

BHP Helping Hand Wall

Thanks to BHP we will be encouraging all Crows and Brisbane fans to trace their hand on the Helping Hand wall to support reconciliation. The artwork is inspired by the 2023 Indigenous guernsey and will be located at the Southern Plaza entrance.

BHP will also be rewarding lucky Crows fans with an Indigenous guernsey giveaway throughout the breaks.

Guernsey Presentation

Continuing with the theme of connection, BHP is providing each of our 32 past and current Indigenous players across both our men’s and women’s teams with a 2023 Indigenous guernsey.

BHP is Co-Major partner of the Adelaide Crows AFLW team, and the proud sponsor of this week’s game. As part of their longstanding partnership with the Club, BHP supports many community programs in regional and Indigenous communities across South Australia, including the Port Augusta Female Football League and the rollout of the Adelaide Football Club STEM football program in schools across the Upper Spencer Gulf and Roxby Downs. These programs provide opportunities and new pathways to bright futures for these kids, especially young females and Indigenous South Australians.
